Brief

Our clients wanted a low maintenance, contemporary back garden with separate zones for entertaining and children’s play. The children’s play area was to be large and flat, to allow for a trampoline and a mini soccer field.  The clients also wanted a courtyard to look onto from the house.

Solution

The large entertaining area has been constructed of granite pavers, complementing the exterior of the house.

A large flat grass zone for the trampoline and soccer nets is screened by a wall of alternating length Cyprus posts. The posts serve as a pool fence, hide the main concrete retaining wall and form a stunning backdrop to the pool.

A Sivertop Ash planter and screen for the pool equipment soften the granite and help to bring the outdoors in by matching the tone of the floorboards. Corten steel and tumbled river pebbles add interest and calm.

A Gladitsia Sunburst will grow to create a magnificent feature tree, providing much needed shade in summer, while allowing light into the house in winter.

The courtyard has height in the Silver Birches to screen the neighbour’s house, a round seat of Corten and Merbau for lounging in the sun/kids play, plus a pond for the family’s fish. The pond and plants are uplit to create a stunning effect at night.
