Brief

Our clients wanted to reclaim a semi-formal, over grown garden into a relaxed, functional, low maintenance space, reflecting the surrounding natural coastal environment.  A dated conversation pit, series of besser retaining walls and some neglected treated pine vegetable gardens were to be replaced by lawn. The functionality of the dual access drive was to be retained.

Solution

A relaxed, coastal look was achieved by unifying the driveway and garden beds into a single open space, using compacted Dromana Dust as the common topping. The driveway was loosely defined with random placement of inset sleepers, to replicate the well- worn, back beach tracks.

We replaced the outgrown pittosporum, agapanthus, fruit trees and rose bushes with plants inspired by walks along the local cliff tops. We excavated and re-levelled the site of the conversation pit and other structures to create a generous, slightly rolling lawn, edged with Corten steel.
